Temperature reception

The Flytec Balloon 4 receives, displays and records temperature data transmitted by the Flytec Balloon TT34 temperature transmitter, which is available separately from your Flytec Balloon dealer.

Prerequisites

This is required to receive temperature data on the Flytec Balloon 4:

  1. A TT34 is installed in your balloon
  2. TT34 reception is activated on your Flytec Balloon 4
  3. The TT34 is paired with your Flytec Balloon 4
  4. The temperature at the measurement tip of the TT34 is at least 20°C (36°F) higher than the temperature at the TT34's casing

Temperature indication

Current envelope temperature is indicated both on flight page 1 (small digits) and on flight page 4 (large digits). Page 4 additionally indicates the maximum temperature received for the current flight.

TT34 information

Along with the envelope temperature, the TT34 also transmits its own battery status. TT34 status information is indicated on flight page 5. Here you see the ID (serial number) of the TT34 that is currently paired with your Flytec Balloon 4. Additionally, once data is received, this page also shows reception and battery status of that TT34. This information is also always given on the status bar.

Alerts

The Flytec Balloon 4 provides two separate temperature alerts, to make you aware of potential overheating of your balloon. Additionally, it also alerts the pilot if the TT34's battery level is low.

Pilot temperature alert

Pilots can activate or deactivate this alert, and set the alert threshold temperature. When that threshold is exceeded (and the alert is activated), the Flytec Balloon 4 emits a warning sound, and automatically jumps to the temperature flight page. The temperature indication blinks, to draw more attention to its high value.

Manufacturer temperature alert

This alert is fixed, and cannot be turned off. Its threshold temperature is 130°C (266°F). Ask your Flytec Balloon dealer to set it to the maximum temperature recommended by your balloon's manufacturer. When that threshold is exceeded, the Flytec Balloon 4 emits a warning sound, and automatically jumps to the temperature flight page. The temperature indication blinks, to draw more attention to its high value. The alert is then repeated every 30 seconds, until the balloon's temperature drops below the threshold.

TT34 low battery alert

Once the TT34's battery level approaches 10%, the Flytec Balloon 4 emits an acoustic alert, and displays a warning message. This is repeated when turning off the vario, as a reminder to replace the TT34's battery before the next flight.
The TT34 runs with a regular 9V Alkaline battery.
